Google Earth.Al- Arabiya reported this week that Iranian officials were outraged to discover a Star of David on the roof of the headquarters of Iran Air. Iran's national airline's headquarters was built by Israeli engineers three decades ago, but apparently no one noticed the symbol until a Google Earth user picked it up.
Doesn't help Iran either that according to this Forbes column, the entire Middle East is lined up against their nuclear program. Her neighbors don't hold back.
How cool is that?!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great target that'd be.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it seem odd that, since this is an airline headquarters, that no Iranians flying overhead noticed it previously? Or could it possibly be that most pilots and passengers there aren't quite as uniformly antisemitic as their fanatical Islamist leaders? Or perhaps they fear that their leaders are so insane that they might even behead someone for simply reporting this news to them?
ReplyDeleteMuch ado about not much. The six-pointed star is common to Islam, Judaism, and Christianity (not to mention alchemy) as the Seal of Solomon. Seems the Iranians can't keep their own historic cultural references straight.
ReplyDeleteI'd be more alarmed by the giant phallus-shaped fountain out front, but that's just me.
ReplyDelete"Doesn't help Iran either that according to this Forbes column, the entire Middle East is lined up against their nuclear program. "
ReplyDeleteBut not Obama.
Shhhh - There is no giant quad-testicled penis in the front yard.
ReplyDeleteWhy spoil the fun?
Apparently there was another building in Tehran which also had a star on its roof which they found a few months ago.
ReplyDeleteThe Shah was not at war with Israel, much less obsessed wth their destruction. When the Shah was in power the Israelis built buildings in Iran. There was a large "vibrant" Jewish community in Iran at one time.
What happened?
And get a grip John, in ancient history Muslims may have used the six pointed star -- remember they are the ones into intricate geometric designs by theology.
In present history Islamists don't decorate things with six pointed stars unless they can burn it, stomp on it or shoot it.
So whatever it is, the star on the Iran Air roof is a hoot.
ROFL @ anon & Foz.
ReplyDeleteHello Birdy .. It seems that it would be hard for anyone now, to say that it's only Israel who is worried about a nuclear Iran.
ReplyDeleteThe comments of the Arab neighbors, are pretty damning.
The Forbes column has a good rundown of them:

Somehow, with observational skills like that, I don't think the Iranian Air Force will fare all that well against... almost anyone.
ReplyDeleteNot only that, but check out the white...ahem!!...in the upper right corner.
ReplyDeleteanonymous at 7:58 am is very observant. This was my concern as well when I first saw the photo with no context.
ReplyDeleteWow, definitely thought it was about the 'member' in the top right at first glance as well
ReplyDeleteThat's right up there with the Sox fan/construction worker who buried the David Ortiz jersey at the new Yankee Stadium.
ReplyDeleteHeh. Jewish graffiti. Very ugly.
ReplyDeleteThat's not a Star of David; that's a bullseye for the Israeli air force on a flyover!
ReplyDeleteThat's sure not and Iranian star, and it ain't an Iranian weiner either....entirely wrong scale ;o)
